For a few years now, Gaspé has experienced
a positive economic expansion, with consequences on the real estate and rental
market: increasing offers to buy a house and very low rental vacancy rate.
In reaction
to this situation, the Town of Gaspé adopted, in June 2005, a residential
development policy to promote such projects on its territory. The main goal is
to participate in residential development by offering financial assistance
programs that can reach a maximum of 25
% of the cost of the project.
Since its adoption, this policy has
contributed to several development projects:
- 18 lots in Placements Gaspé sector
- 25 lots in downtown Gaspé (Côte-Bellevue and LeBreux
streets)
- 22 lots in Sandy-Beach (Forest street)
- 50 lots in
Rivière-au-Renard (Martin and Des Cerfs streets) for relocation of houses damaged by the 12 lots in Corte-Réal (Père-Watier street) due
to floods, August 9 2007
Community
Housing
In 2007, Québec Government announced 2 major rental building
construction projects: 24 units in Rivière-au-Renard and 36 units in Gaspé.
